Dear Students:
The Bilingual Initiative at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus would like to inform you that we are in the process of reviewing candidates for Fall 2013. As previously informed, all high school students of Latino background in the United States may show interest only in the Río Piedras Campus.
During the first year, the Program offers courses of the general studies component such as Social Sciences, Humanities, Biology, and Physics in English with a transition to Spanish. At the same time, students will take the Spanish as a Second Language classes required, alongside tutoring at the Center for the Development of Linguistic Skills and workshops in conversational Spanish, to ensure they are able to succeed at an academic level during their second year when they will take courses in Spanish. The Program also requires that students attend a course in university life and participate in all the activities organized to enhance their experience in Puerto Rico.
We have attached the Profile Form for you to fill out and e-mail to us at [email protected]. Students interested in the Bilingual Initiative must fulfill the following criteria: 1) have a Latino background and be a resident of the United States; 2) graduate from an accredited High School or have a GED; and 3) provide results of the SAT entrance exam. It is important to note that the Program does not accept college transfer students.
The Office of Admissions in Río Piedras will evaluate all of the necessary documents (transcripts and SAT scores) as soon as they receive them. Please make sure that your school sends the necessary transcripts in a signed and sealed envelope.
I look forward to hearing from you and welcome you to the Bilingual Initiative at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.
